Cane is a material that can be woven by hand, or manufactured in sheets, and by using traditional methods, repairs to cane furniture can restore them back to their former glory. Fibre rush is a man-made fibre product used as a substitute for real rush, which is not easily available in Australia. Fibre rush is tough and long lasting and looks similar to real rush. Its main use is for reseating country style, rush seated chairs.
Sea grass cord is a product which looks like coarse string or fine rope. When new, it is the colour of freshly mown grass but mellows to a rich golden colour as it ages. It is used in the making and repair of sea grass chairs (a type of wicker chair, common here in Australia) and as a decorative material in baskets and other small items of furniture.
We also repair Danish cord, which is another man-made product used to make woven seats on various Scandinavian designer chairs.
